children need help in emergenciesÂ
Half of the victims of natural disasters are children, whether it be a sudden earthquake, flooding, famine or war.

Whenever a disaster strikes, children are particularly vulnerable. They may lose their home, their community, security and endure violence, disease, malnutrition and trauma. Many either lose their home, or are denied an education or access to food and water. Children lose weight quickly and can become malnourished. Children separated from their families are at risk of abuse or exploitation.
Save the Children Australia is part of the International Save the Children Alliance, a group of organisations that work in more than 100 countries around the world. Our staff are often already working in countries hit by an emergency and are trained to respond quickly to get immediate help to children and families. We also stay long after the initial emergency to help communities rebuild and return to normal.
