Op shop supervisor

We have 9 shops situated around the Perth metropolitan area. Funds raised are used to support programs in child rights development locally and around the world.

Position summary

Save the Children Australia has nine shops situated around the Perth metropolitan area. We aim to raise funds through the sale of goods in the shops. These funds are used to support programs in child rights development locally, nationally and internationally. Shop Supervisors help us send out a positive message about Save the Children by running a welcoming, shop with a happy team of volunteers selling well-presented stock.

Position description


One of nine metropolitan locations: East Vic Park, Mosman Park, Fremantle, Myaree, Tuart Hill, Mount Hawthorn, Mirrabooka Square, Scarborough and Midland


As per roster agreed upon by Supervisors at the shop within the following preferred opening hours: M-F 9.00-4.00, Sat 9.00-1.00 (varies with location)

Position details

  • lead a team of fellow volunteers within a cohesive environment
  • interview prospective volunteers and ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed and inductions carried out
  • manage merchandise according to guidelines set by Perth office, including sorting, quality control, pricing and rotation
  • present merchandise in a clear and accessible manner, with consideration to safety
  • manage financial procedures:
    - oversee cash register
    - oversee reconciliation of sales and cash in till each day
    - manage cash float, petty cash and banking arrangements
    - management of sales reporting (daily sales reports, etc.)
  • manage the operational procedures of the shop including skip bins, building amenities, opening and closing procedures, volunteer roster, regular communication with Shift Supervisors and between Head Office and all volunteer staff
  • liaise with Perth Office on the general requirements of the shop, eg signage, shop consumables, repairs and maintenance required
  • perform shop duties including assisting customers, processing sales, sorting donations and cleaning and maintaining the shop
  • apply safe workplace practices
  • participate in relevant training and meetings including Shop Supervisors meetings
  • work appropriately with culturally accepted practices, and to at all times provide culturally accepted practice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families and communities

  • punctual

  • ability to work independently
  • well developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to lead a team and model appropriate behaviour
  • knowledge of basic arithmetic
  • cash handling skills

Desired experience

  • previous experience in retail
  • previous customer service experience
  • interest in supporting children’s rights

Training provided

  • induction to Save the Children
  • in-shop Orientation
  • ongoing on the job training

Confirmed volunteers will be required to: 

  • give permission for Save the Children to undertake a National Police Record Check and provide 100 points of identification
  • read and accept the Save the Children Volunteer Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy
