Play to be school ready

20 September 2018, Impact of Our Work

Providing the little ones with nurturing, play-based education in some of the most remote communities on earth

The biggest barriers to early learning in Solomon Islands are isolation and lack of services. For children in remote communities, walking long distances is not always safe, and families may not have the money to travel by boat.

Thanks to your support, Save the Children is training early education facilitators in play-based learning and raising awareness in remote communities about the importance of early education. We’re also working with local government, community groups and churches to help make sure we reach everyone in the community.

The Play to Be School Ready program helps children aged 3-5 prepare for a transition into the formal school system. The project equips local communities – including parents, caregivers and early childhood facilitators to help children develop literacy and numeracy skills as well as improve their social and emotional development.
