It’s a potentially fatal condition that weakens a child’s small body, and makes them vulnerable to common and preventable diseases that can suddenly turn deadly.

In Somalia, 9-year-old Kaltun^* watched as her baby brother Ahmed^* was threatened by severe acute malnutrition.

“Before he got sick, I loved to hold him and play with him. But now, he's got a severe fever and cough. My mother told me that he’d be hospitalised, and I won't be able to hold him for a while.”
