Save the Children’s Cubbies program provides a safe space for children to play, learn and share – many of whom have come from families who have experienced extreme hardships as refugees.
Children don’t choose where they live and grow up, they make do with what they have. But sometimes their environment is not as safe as it should be.
The Cubbies program has been running since 1974. It started as a response to the needs of families living in public housing around Fitzroy. Today, Cubbies continues to provide a much-needed safe space for local children.
Cubbies is a magical place where children can play together in a safe environment. It’s a place where they can learn to cook, play the drums, dance, create and build cubby houses. It’s a place where they can interact with children their own age, under the supervision and with the support of youth workers.
This program makes a huge difference to these children’s lives, but when Cubbies is closed they have no safe place to play.
