Our application process

Thank you for your interest in a role with Save the Children. Get your application started here.

Our application process

We're so glad you want to join us in making lasting change for children! Here are a few things you should know about our priorities and our recruitment process.

Children, young people and the families we support are our number 1 priority.

The wellbeing of children and young people comes first. Before you join us, you'll be required to undergo child safe recruitment and selection procedures, including police checking, obtaining a Working with Children Check, participating in our Inter-Agency Misconduct Disclosure Scheme and providing 2 professional referees. You'll also need to accept our Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

We'll help you through all of these requirements once we confirm you're the successful applicant.

We celebrate diversity, are culturally aware and provide a safe and inclusive environment for all

We support and celebrate differences. We are proud of the diversity of our employees. We know that great teams are a combination of members who've come from a wide range of backgrounds. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, disability, marital or civil partnership status, neurodiversity, gender affirmation, pregnancy and maternity, caring or parental responsibilities, age, or beliefs on matters such as religion and politics. If you bring knowledge, experience, values and/or skills that can contribute to creating lasting change for children, then we're excited to welcome you on board!

How to apply

We advertise all our roles on our Jobs page here. Once you've identified a role you think could be a good fit, simply apply via the Apply section at the bottom of the advert. You have an option of uploading a new CV, using one you have on file with us or via SEEK.

A few things to note:

  • In the first step we ask you for your CV. We don't always request a cover letter, but there is an opportunity to upload one if you wish, along with any other documentation that may support your application. Pro tip: We really like cover letters!
  • When uploading your CV, our online tool tries to read the document and displays it in an overview at the end of all application steps. The format may looks messy, as though the formatting is lost, but there is no need to adjust this! We always access your original document which looks exactly as you provided.
  • If you need any specific support or adjustments throughout the recruitment process and beyond, please reach out to our Talent Acquisition team: people.culture@savethechildren.org.au.

After you've applied

You will immediately receive an email confirming we have received your application, but reviewing your application may not start right away. To ensure all applicants have time to apply, we usually start reviewing applications after the closing date of the vacancy. So don't be concerned if you don't hear from us right away!

Once we review all applications, we'll invite all candidates who seem a good flt for the role to attend an interview, either via phone, one-way video, Teams or in person. If you have made it to this round, we will email you the details in advance, explaining what to expect and some tips on how to prepare.

Most recruitment processes will require 2 interviews, but occasionally we may ask you to attend a 3rd interview, or perhaps complete psychometric testing. At all times, we will keep you informed of next steps and timing - but if you're ever wondering about how your application is progressing, please reach out to the Hiring Manager or people.culture@savethechildren.org.au.

Unfortunately, not all applicants can be successful, and disappointing people who are passionate about our organisation and the work we do is tough for us too. We let you know as soon as possible if you have been unsuccessful - either via email, or if you've attended a face-to-face interview, we'll call you to provide detailed feedback. We are not able to provide detailed feedback to every applicant, but we're committed to circling back to every applicant, every time.

If your application is successful - welcome!

We will contact you following the last interview to advise you're the successful applicant and to make you a verbal offer of employment.

Before we can issue your formal Employment Agreement, we need to ensure our child safeguarding obligations are met. We'll be in touch to discuss these shortly, so keep an eye on your email for more detail about our pre-employment background checks.

Welcome to Save! We're excited to see the incredible impact we know you're going to have for children everywhere.

Stay up to date on how Save the Children is creating a world where every child has a safe and happy childhood
