Your school can help change lives
Are you a teacher, student or parent? There are loads of ways your school can help change the lives of children less fortunate that your own. Holding a fundraising activity for Save the Children will help us protect children from harm and help them to access quality education and health services.
Save the Children works across five key areas:
Every child has the right to an education, yet millions of primary school-aged children are not in school. Education is a path out of poverty for many children and their families, which is why Save the Children is working in Australia and overseas to create greater access to quality education.
We're on a mission to improve the health of children and families around the world so that more children can live long, happy and healthy lives.
We protect children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and advocate on their behalf. We help children who have been separated from their families because of conflict and disasters, and work with children in Australia who need extra support.
Children are the most in need when an emergency strikes. They face injury, malnutrition, disease, and risk violence and exploitation. We provide life-saving supplies and emotional support to children during emergencies, and also support communities with the process of rebuilding.
Climate change and disasters
We know children can positively contribute to the safety of their communities. We're working to reduce their vulnerability to natural disasters, and help them understand the impacts of climate change and how their communities can respond.
What your school can do
Schools are great at coming up with creative ideas for fundraising. From ticketed music concerts or other performances, to international food fairs and weekend car washes, the list is almost endless. Your school is invited to come up with an original idea but you can also use these for inspiration:
- Hold a lunchtime auction of something that almost every student would pay top dollar for – perhaps the chance to 'buy' a teacher for a day or to do a task.
- Run a lunchtime bake sale.
- Nominate a sports game or event to be an official fundraiser and charge entry or request donations.
- Ask all students to donate unwanted books and hold a public weekend book sale.
- Make the school dance a sponsored event where everyone asks donors to sponsor them to dance non-stop for three or more hours.
- Have a good old-fashioned spell-a-thon (or any kind of a-thon).
- Whatever it is, make it fun!
