Currently, there are children in Thailand who don’t have access to basic healthcare education and are also at risk of exploitation from child trafficking and labour. Below is the work we are doing as a charity working in Thailand and how we are focused on helping children in need to ensure they have a healthy start in life, with an education and are protected from harm.
Every child deserves a bright future. For over 100 years Save The Children has been helping children in need and working hard to fulfil our vision of a world in which every child lives, learns and is safe from harm. We protect and empower children, supporting them in telling their own stories, allowing their voices to be heard and defend their rights to survive & thrive.
We go to the toughest places to save children from earthquakes, cyclones, conflict & disease, we protect children who are being exploited, neglected or abused and do everything we can to give children a healthy start in life and the opportunity to learn.
What our Thailand charity programs are doing to help communities
Children born into poverty in Thailand can miss out on their basic rights and be more at risk of violence and abuse. And, with South East Asia having a history of political stability and frequent natural disasters, this can exacerbate pre-existing vulnerabilities such as health, education and safety along with the risk of being exploited through child labour and trafficking.
Through our Thailand charity work, here are some of the programs we run to help children and their families in Thailand:
- Helping to provide access to healthcare & equipping health centres.
- Providing pre- and post-natal care, and birthing support to children under five and pregnant mothers who are among the most at-risk of preventable disease and health complications during pregnancy and birth
- Training health workers to help improve health knowledge & family care practices
- Providing education and safe learning spaces for children across Thailand including in remote communities and ethnic minority children living in refugee camps on the Thai-Myanmar border
- Training teachers to use more effective practices that better engage their students
- Improve school safety during natural disasters so children can be safe and continue their education regardless of what happens
- Protecting children at risk of violence, abuse, child trafficking and labour
- Providing immediate life-saving aid when disaster strikes, ongoing psychosocial support to help children recover from traumatic events and helping to reunite families that have been separated
