Family connect and support (FCS) is one of the many community programs we are involved in to provide support to Australian children and their families. Save The Children provides the FCS service in Murrumbidgee including the regional centres of Wagga Wagga, Albury-Wodonga and Griffith. The FCS service is funded by the NSW government, is free, voluntary and available to everyone. The FCS service is also available in other areas of NSW.
Save The Children has been helping children in need for over 100 years. We are the world’s leading independent organisation for children and have grown to become a global movement, helping children in 117 countries. In 2019 we directly reached 38.7 million of the world’s most vulnerable children around the globe. 79% of donations go directly to program expenditure and we have initiatives in place to ensure our ongoing accountability.
About The FCS service
FCS Service connects vulnerable children, young people and families with support services in their local area to assist with challenges they may be facing including family breakdowns, financial issues, housing, mental health, substance abuse and domestic & family violence. Support is also provided to parents who may be struggling.
One of the support services offered is Volunteer Family Connect where families in need are connected with a trained and supervised volunteer. The program is designed around:
-
Providing guidance, support and advice on developing skills for raising children in a happy, safe and loving environment
-
Focusing on the importance of parent-child bonding
-
Bridging the gap between families and their local communities.
-
Linking families to services in the community
-
Helping parents to develop their own coping and parenting strategies
-
Providing friendly support and encouragement in a non-threatening, non-directive, non-judgemental manner.
